  • Hiding places and hammocks

Prevention

  • Keep an eye on breathing and skin
  • A clean cage
  • A veterinary check if any sign appears

Frequently asked questions

Why is my rat sneezing?
Rats are prone to respiratory infections; low-dust bedding helps, but see the vet if it persists.
Are tumours common?
Yes, especially in females. Early surgery gives better odds.
Should I keep two rats?
Yes — in Switzerland it is even illegal to keep a rat on its own. They are very social animals that suffer when kept alone, so keep at least two.
