Gerbil

Originally from desert habitats, the gerbil is a sociable, active rodent that loves to dig. Its home should reflect these needs.

Frequently asked questions

Why a deep substrate?
Gerbils love to dig tunnels: a deep substrate respects this natural behaviour.
Can I keep just one?
No: in Switzerland it is illegal to keep a gerbil on its own. They are sociable animals, so a compatible group is best, introduced carefully.
Sunflower seeds — good or bad?
Give them only in moderation: they’re too fatty to form the basis of the diet.
